JOIN US FOR FOXTALES IN THE MRPAC ART GALLERY

FoxTales is an evening of dynamic storytelling shorts featuring true tales told by local folks.

Everyone has a great story and storytelling has played an essential role in cultures throughout history. The communal act of coming together to share stories is a powerful event because listening to compelling personal stories creates moments of deeper understanding about our neighbor’s experiences.

This monthly series is all about building community and finding common ground while celebrating our uniqueness as individuals.

Come enjoy some beautiful art, a drink, and friends in an intimate performance setting.

Tickets are $10 per person (plus booking fees).

Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the door on the evening of the event (if not sold out).

**Please note: FoxTales is recommended for ages 16+ due to the mature themes and content of some stories.

FoxTales Hosts

Laurie Coe

Laurie Coe

Laurie moved to Foxborough with her family in 2020, though her husband grew up here—making her, as she likes to say, a “townie by marriage.” They now live in the home where he was raised with their two teenagers.

Laurie is a public health specialist and currently works at the Harvard School of Public Health in a research administration role.

A former FoxTales storyteller herself, she is thrilled to step into the role of co-host. She believes that sharing personal stories fosters compassion, and unity.

She hopes you will consider coming out to hear some great stories this season and maybe even telling one of your own!

James C. Ferguson

James C. Ferguson

Born in Rhode Island, James returned to New England after working in Los Angeles for a good number of years on numerous television and film projects.

Currently, he spends much of his creative energy writing plays, which have been produced throughout the United States and internationally.

Many of James’ works are available on The New Play Exchange (www.newplayexchange.org), where readers can explore and leave comments. You can also find him on social media as James C. Ferguson or @scalepluspoints.

FoxTales Frequently Asked Questions

What is FoxTales?

FoxTales is a live monthly storytelling event that runs from September to May in the gallery space at The Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center in Foxboro, MA featuring between 4-6 storytellers per show, all sharing true, personal tales centered around a monthly theme.

Between 5 and 7 minutes. We encourage everyone to time and practice their story beforehand. It helps tremendously!

The theme is intended to be a jumping off point. Your story can connect to the theme directly or tangentially, literally or metaphorically. Be creative! We love hearing all sorts of different interpretations of the same theme.

Anyone! You don’t need to be a performer or a writer. You just have to tell a story that is true, fits within the time limit and connects to the theme in some way. We love hearing from all voices in our community and beyond.

You can submit your story pitch by email to hosts James C. Ferguson & Laurie Coe via email at [email protected]. They will follow up with you to talk about your story idea and get you on the schedule. If there is a specific night or theme you want to sign up for, please let us know.

Nope! You can tell your story from memory, if you like, or you can read your story from notes if you need them. Whatever makes you most comfortable!

The gallery space at the Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Center holds 35 attendees. The room is small and intimate – some might even say cozy – and presents a warm and comfortable environment for both the storytellers and audience.

We encourage our storytellers to tell all sorts of stories from all sorts of different perspectives. Do the stories occasionally focus on adult themes? Yes, they do. Do the storytellers sometimes use inappropriate or foul language? Sometimes, but we would encourage our storytellers to not overdo it. Parents and guardians will have to decide for themselves if they believe Foxtales is appropriate for their children. As with all live events, the main thing we ask of our audience is that they are respectful and supportive of the storytellers. (Mute those devices, please.)

Any story that is true and personal to you that connects to the theme. Stories can be funny, whimsical, serious, inspiring, heartbreaking, or a potpourri! As long as the story is real and yours, and you can tell it within 5-7 minutes, you’re good to go!

Audience members vote for their favorite story and the winner is presented with a gift card generously donated by Union Straw.

The show typically runs about 60-90 minutes. It’s a relaxed evening with time to mingle and connect with other patrons.

Go here for parking information and a map of the area, outlining where you can park.

FoxTales is about connection, laughter, reflection and surprises. Every story is different, every night is unique and you never know which story will stick with you long after you leave. FoxTales is an opportunity to connect with and support your community as well as the arts.
