Jerry Aissis’s journey as an artist is deeply intertwined with his background in both science and education. While studying biology and art in college, he envisioned a career as a medical or scientific illustrator. However, his path led him to a 33-year teaching career in Central Falls, where he found creative ways to integrate his artistic talents into the classroom. From crafting detailed biological diagrams to teaching high school art, he continuously fostered a connection between science and visual expression.
It wasn’t until retirement that Aissis fully embraced watercolor painting as a hobby. Seeking to refine his craft, he immersed himself in workshops at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, painting alongside a community of passionate and talented artists. He firmly believes that artistic growth flourishes in a collaborative environment, where shared enthusiasm and dedication inspire development.
Today, Aissis shares his love of watercolor through teaching, leading classes at the Cumberland Library on Friday mornings. Guiding others in their artistic exploration, he hopes to instill an appreciation for the unique and dynamic process of watercolor painting. For him, the true excitement of the medium lies not just in the finished piece, but in the journey of creation itself.
The Marilyn Rodman Performing Arts Gallery calls for local visual artists to submit samples of their work to be showcased in a gallery setting inside the theater on a bi-monthly basis. Our gallery is located at: 1 School Street, Foxborough, MA.
We will continue to present local artists working in a variety of mediums with curated themes and companion events featuring local performers, speakers and businesses.
Members of the public are invited to visit the gallery during upcoming ticketed events and on specific event nights designed to foster an inspirational experience while enjoying beverages from our concession area and mingling with other local creatives. Upcoming dates will be announced as they are finalized.
All are welcome!
Gallery events are supported in part by a grant from the Foxborough, Attleboro, Mansfield and Sharon Cultural Councils, local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
